We stand with ukraine

In 2016, Heather MacCleoud founded the Asherah Foundation with an empowering vision. She envisioned a world where women held the freedom and chance to change the outcome of their own lives, in a tremendously positive way, enabling them to reach their maximum potential through higher education.  This is something many women could not financially do on their own and yet it was so important to them personally and also for the mission of reforming many of their communities.

Since its inception, Asherah Foundation has helped many women have this opportunity by providing them scholarships for their higher education, giving them the springboard they so need to begin this journey and enrich their lives.

This month, we have sought donations through our “Little by Little” campaign in our Global Giving Platform that ran from April 4 to 8, with the donations aiming for longevity and quality of education for our scholarship recipients. Coming from Liberia, Burundi and South Sudan, we targeted funds to cover their transportation, books, and tuition fees.

Now, our newly launched initiative is to support women that have been displaced from their home countries due to civil and military conflict. We begin this project through our “Help Women Impacted by Conflict Access Education” campaign in our Global Giving website, with the goal of raising $10,000. This project is tailored to fit the educational needs of women in a time where the quality and dissemination of education are curtailed by violence and its consequential mass migration. Asherah strives to improve the situation by providing them with the necessary technology to access their online course materials.

With the most recent crisis in Ukraine, our mission is more visible than ever as we seek to support women and the right they have to education. By doing all we can to make our scholarships available to Ukrainian women and their sisters around the world as they seek asylum and safety and try to find ways to better their situation, we know that this small effort can change many lives.

Despite these often desperate situations, women over centuries have proven to overcome life’s adversities. The strength and passion of The Asherah Foundation’s scholarship recipients is just one among the millions of testimonies of this female legacy. Our recipients are the living proof that no calamity, natural or man-made can stop them from pursuing their dreams. We are proud to be a part of their journey.
